The joy of doing one's work well...

An Italian cobbler in his little shop on rue Froissart, one of many shoe-making Italians living and working in Brussels. He came to Belgium in an immigration wave in 1975, and has stayed ever since.

Le dernier accordeonist dans le metro?

Anyone who hasn't seen this gentleman or one of his many colleagues from the south-eastern fringes of the EU probably doesn't use public transport in Brussels. As for the rest of us, we've grown used to the sight, to hearing the rather limited repertoire...

The joy of meeting a lion on a tram

Unlike in Prague, the chances of seeing a pickpocket or a ticket inspector on a Brussels tram are rather slim. The most you have to brace yourself for is facing an ex or... a lion. This poster th at I discovered near the central train station in Luxembourg...

Le simple bonheur de manger une gaufre chaude...

Seeing these kids so simply and spontaneously immersed in nibbling at their hot waffles felt so familiar... almost like re-living a distant memory. Couldn't help at least trying to capture the flavour of the moment...
